Success stories

Weight loss is often the most noticeable change on a ketogenic diet. Achieving your weight loss goals is a significant milestone in your journey towards better health. We celebrate every victory, big or small, including entering "one-derland" (a playful term for reaching a weight in the 100s).

We measure success not only by weight loss but also by non-scale victories, such as improved energy levels, pain-free movement, and improved metabolic markers. Small changes like not needing a seat belt extender, fitting into restaurant booths, and climbing stairs with ease can make all the difference in achieving a healthier, happier life. E.g. fatty liver can be reversed in as little as three months.

Our Facebook group has only been around for a little over a year, but Joy and I have coached people in other groups long before that. Some followed us to our new group.

Our Facebook group has only been active for just over two years, but our coaching experience extends beyond that. We're proud to share some of our success stories:

José Diaz

In 2018 I weighed 250+ lbs. I was diagnosed with T2 Diabetes (A1c=8.0%) and NAFLD. My symptoms: lack of energy, living in a fog (difficult to concentrate on a matter), bloated after every meal, tingling in hands and toes, minor skin cuts and scratches took months to heal, unable to loose weight, blood pressure getting out of normal range, and cholesterol borderline, low-libido and the expected performance decline, etc.

While waiting for my PCP to see me, I began my own personal quest to understand the disease and my options. You have no idea how many medical paper I read, and still do.

As my cholesterol went up once my fat mobilized, my PCP had no clue why this was happening and insisted on placing me on statins. With my understanding on this topic, I refused.

I also began exercising. My waist is down from 42 to 34 inches, all metabolic markers are in the normal range with the exception of total cholesterol which is parked at 209.

I resolved ALL my health issues with a dietary lifestyle change to a ketogenic diet, intermittent fasting, and the addition of exercise.

These pictures are 11 months apart.

I'm 47, have started menopause and was REALLY feeling the weight of my age. Valentine's Weekend a year ago, we made a promise to turn things around.

Promise kept.

Keto, intermittent fasting, good food and sticking to it during the months I lost nothing have all brought me to this 2nd picture I took in January of this year. I AM STABLE for the first time in my adult life. I don't have to starve myself to make up for binges. I don't have to keep reducing my calories to keep weight off. I'm not waiting for a vacation to derail me.

We're off ALL meds and ALL of our labs have returned to the healthy ranges.

I'm LIVING and my weight hasn't changed since August of last year.
STABLE.
HEALTHY.
HAPPY.

These are really two journeys. I will start with mine first, because the keto bug bit me first. In October of 2019 I saw a glimmer of hope, a video by Dr. Stephen Phinney, that opened my mind to an actual shot at improving my health. My husband was not convinced. But after a year of subtle and not so sublte remarks, he finally joined me on my keto quest. Collectively we lost about 160 pounds.

The before pic is a rare picture of no one sucking in their tummy or hiding behind a kid. This before is a picture I would have never posted anywhere. But for the sake of showing the improvement, it is now public.

I have coached other family members and friends, but my husband made the most progress. We are also lucky that our doctor is on board with our keto quest.

As a married couple, you would think that meal prep is easier. But you would be wrong. Our palates are very much different, and we end up eathing different meals most of the time. Add in two non-keto teenagers, and the mess is complete.

But the support from a spouse on the same diet cannot be underestimated.
